A thoroughly pissed hacker, named Muslix64, tried to watch a HD-DVD using his computer, his new HD-DVD drive, and his HD monitor hooked up via non-HDCP (non copy protection) DVI... needless to say, that setup didn't work. Because he was trying to watch with a non-HDCP DVI video card, absolutely nothing displayed on his HD monitor. The hacker labeled the AACS spec as unfair, because he was unable to watch HD movies he paid for on his HD monitor. Motivated by this, Muslix64 took matters into his own hands: he decided he'd crack the copy protection. After eight days of work, he managed to completely decrypt the movie to his computer. He has already released a Java utility called "BackupHDDVD," which allows users to decrypt their movies on HDDVD.
