360s Start Getting a New DVD Drive

It seems that Microsoft had a little Christmas present for new 360 owners that has just been noticed.  All 360s made after 06 November 2006 and beyond sport newer BenQ drives.  The BenQ drives are most importantly faster and much quieter than previous models made by Toshiba/Samsung and Hitachi/LG.  So, if your model has been getting disc read errors, I'd try to get my hands on a 360 made after November when you return it.

Apple: Don't Upgrade to Vista (yet, at least)

According to Apple, there are currently some major compatibility issues between their popular iTunes software, and Microsoft's newest operating system, Windows Vista. Apparently, these problems could potentially lead to some failures, including the inability to play music and videos downloaded through iTunes, a lack of synchronization support, contacts and calendars, and very poor performance all around.

It very well may be that iTunes doesn't currently mesh well with Vista, but it is also likely that Apple doesn't want consumers to upgrade to the new OS at all... after all, they make operating systems too.

That said, it is pretty obvious that if Apple wishes to retain their portable music player crown for many years to come, they will be forced to support Vista, as Microsoft's operating systems tend to control huge market shares. And indeed, they will be doing exactly that: Apple's website says a new, Vista compatible, version of iTunes will be available in the next few weeks.

Now we won't start screaming
