Dave Karraker, senior director of
corporate communications at Sony, now claims one of the primary
reasons the Playstation 3 has lacked in sales thus far is the mass
negativity of the Internet gaming media.
Sony has recently faced a huge amount
of criticism for the price and overall theme of the Playstation 3.
From day one, many media members have called the system unjustifiably
expensive and have said that Sony poured far too much attention into
giving the console flashy graphics and extreme processing power.
Karraker defends the console, saying it
is far superior in performance to any of its competitors. He believes
that the media has tried to push the mainstream consumers away from
Sony's product and toward competitors like Nintendo and Microsoft,
and that they have been fairly successful in doing so. Karraker and
others like him at Sony are trying their best to pull the console out
of the massive hole it is in, but given the steep price tag, and the
warning I issued months before its release, I'm not sure Sony can
cover enough ground to have anywhere near Nintendo's success. Interview on gamepro |
